This Retail Pharmacist will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing, filling and dispensing physician medication orders/prescriptions. Interpreting and evaluating medication orders to ensure drug and dosage are appropriate for patient and to identify possible adverse reactions, contacting physician as needed.
  • Checking orders/prescriptions filled by support personnel, verifying products are correctly prepared and labeled.
  • Counseling patients on proper use, storage and side effects of prescribed medications.
  • Supervising, prioritizing and assigning work of technical support personnel within the area of responsibility. Monitoring work volume and delegating work assignments to meet established schedules and patient care requirements.
  • Monitoring and evaluating work performance, providing guidance feedback and instruction as needed to ensure patient medications are prepared, labeled, recorded and distributed according to established procedures and regulations.
  • Educating and advising physicians, nursing and other pharmacy personnel on drug interactions, contraindications, allergies, side effects and instructions for administration. Conducting nursing in-service education programs and preparing and maintaining drug information materials for assigned unit/clinic.
  • Preparing and maintaining various logs and records, such as distribution of controlled substances, quality assurance reviews and work volume statistics in accordance with established standards and procedures. Performing periodic audits of specific departmental services or functions and documents results.
  • Monitoring and maintaining internal systems, procedures and guidelines for assigned unit/service. Reviewing and updating operations and practice guidelines for area of responsibility. Evaluating, identifying and recommending changes in systems, methods and procedures to improve operational efficiency and quality of patient care.
  • Orienting new staff pharmacists in specific procedures and functions and oversees training of technical support personnel within area of responsibility. Identifying, recommending and conducting training and educational programs for department personnel.
  • Participating in departmental training and continuing education programs. Serving as preceptor for student interns, identifying and assigning clinical experiences, monitoring, documenting and reporting performance and providing guidance and feedback.
  • Monitoring and maintaining equipment, supplies and facilities within the pharmacy.

To qualify, you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy plus up to one year of postdegree course work and/or an internship and: two to three years general pharmacy experience, or one year directly related pediatric experience. Doctorate degree in Pharmacy preferred.
  • Massachusetts pharmacist license, or Massachusetts pharmacy intern license is required; Massachusetts pharmacist license must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Previous hospital-based retail experience highly preferred.
  • Analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems OR design relatively complex systems and programs.
  • Communication skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions or welldeveloped writing skills.

Schedule is days/eves, rotating weekends.
