This position is assigned to the Office of Student Transitions (
OST) which is part of the Division of Student Affairs.
The Office of Student Transitions (
OST) includes the following functional areas: First Year Experience Programs, programming for Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and focused populations such as first-generation, transfer, and graduate students.
First Year Experience programs include: New Student Orientation, New Student Welcome and First Year Photo, Freshman Seminar (
COAD), and the Camp P.I.R.A.T.E.S. extended orientation program. These experiences build a foundation for student success by creating a sense of belonging, promoting resources to support overall well-being, and encouraging student engagement. |
Job Duties |
The primary functions of this position include: coordination of the Involvement Ambassador program, creating programming for first-year students (both new and transfers), and supporting the student transition into, through, and out of college. The Involvement Ambassador program connects new students (freshmen and transfers) to engagement opportunities at
ECU so students can build community and improve their sense of belonging. Through meetings, presentations, tabling and events, the Ambassadors coach their peers about why it is important to get involved and how to take the first steps. This position will report to the Director of
OST.
Involvement Ambassador Program (60%):
- Manage student participants which include making assignments (over 1,200 transfers and 4,000 freshmen), managing caseloads and interactions, providing support to mentors, and intervening when appropriate.
- Design and implement a training program for Ambassadors that includes informational interviewing, referral techniques, campus resource information, and engagement opportunities. Trainings will also be based on trends and needs.
- Connect and refer students to resources that support student success (including the Center for Student Success, Center for Counseling and Student Development, Disability Support Services, etc.) as appropriate.
- Serve as advisor to the ECU Ambassadors, including meeting development, assisting with events, retreats, and special events, and organization logistics.
- Marketing and outreach of the program which includes tabling, presentations, and events.
First-Year and Transfer Programming (25%):
- Plan and implement opportunities designed for first-year and transfer students that aid in a successful transition to ECU. Creating opportunities to create belonging, cultivate engagement, and promote resources that aid in student success and retention.
- Coordinate marketing and outreach efforts to include family members, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Collaborate with departmental, divisional, and campus partners on programming and communication plans that support retention efforts.
Administrative (15%):
The Program Coordinator will assist with other programs and services offered by the unit and will support functions of the office including New Student Orientation, First-Gen Programming, and Commencement.
- Manage budgets and expenditures related to program areas of responsibility.
- Teach one section of the freshman seminar (COAD 1000) in both fall and spring semesters.
- Attend staff meetings, divisional events, and other university meetings as assigned.
- Programs will require a flexible schedule that includes non-traditional work hours.
- Other duties as assigned.
