Job Description

The Lead Teacher coordinates, supervises, and ensures the educational effectiveness and safety of the students of an assigned afterschool students. The Lead Teacher focuses on cultural unity and acceptance within the classroom and provides guidance and care to the children under their supervision. The selected candidates will assist in planning, organizing, and conducting a childcare program, along with providing guidance and care to children under their supervision. They will also coordinate, supervise, and ensure the educational effectiveness of an assigned classroom and/or age group. The Lead Teacher focuses on completing work effectively, efficiently, and in a timely fashion. The Lead Teacher also:

  • Understands how own work impacts others in the team
  • Provide a variety of developmentally appropriate activities for the children in the classroom based on observed and assessed skills
  • Maintain structure and classroom routine. Initiate transitions and follow needs of children
  • Assess developmental skills of individual children and develop learning goals for behavior or development
  • Identify changing needs, developmental goals, delays/concerns and discuss with parents
  • Regularly exchanges information with appropriate parties internal and external parties
  • Supervise and mentor youth development specialists or student assistants in the care and development of children Supervise student assistants in the classroom
  • Evaluate work performance and provide leadership, mentoring, and feedback to student assistants in a professional manner; Recognize successful performance; or if appropriate, recommend discipline or termination
Shift

Monday-Friday during afterschool program operation hours (4 per day)

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in early childhood education, child development or related area or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • The ideal candidate for this position has a flexible schedule that allows for changes, is motivating to children and coworkers, has high energy, and has experience communicating effectively with parents and coworkers
  • Teacher's License or Child Development Associate credential preferred
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $25.00 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
