What You'll Do

The Assistant Operations Supervisor is responsible for ensuring operations are in compliance with all applicable requirements for a defined set of Y-12 capabilities and associated infrastructure. The Assistant Operations Supervisor will perform additional tasks or roles as the FOM Director requires.

Assistant Operations Supervisor responsibilities:



  • Executing assignments directed by the Facility Operations Management Director which can include, but not limited to OSB chairperson, CCB chairperson, reviews and approvals of facility-level implementation plans, ensuring adherence to site-level policies, integrating staff activities with support organizations, and any Operations Manager responsibilities so designated
  • Implementing Y-12 policies, programs, and procedures that have been established to monitor and control equipment and personnel activities that ensures safe and compliant operations
  • Serving as an interface on issues related to facility safety, criticality safety, radiological control, security, equipment operating parameters, emergency preparedness, and other safety management programs across production facilities
  • Reviewing completed surveillances, round sheets, and other monitoring results to ensure facility and equipment performance is within expected operating limits
  • Utilizing metrics to facilitate proactive, informed decision-making and to develop prompt corrective actions
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives in operational performance, consistency, simplicity, and standardization across production operations
  • Ensuring training programs are implemented consistently across all facilities
  • Setting performance expectations and monitoring performance for all employees assigned to their staff



Accountabilities:



  • To the Director, Facility Operations Management, Production Support for the effective implementation of organizational safety, security and compliance requirements within production facilities
  • To the FOM organization as a resource for facility staff, to answer questions and offer guidance to maintain consistent operations
  • To the FOM and Production organizations for resolution of conflicting priorities, ensuring a healthy respect for Conduct of Operations principles, and interpreting policies or procedures when questions arise



Authorities:



  • Authorized to resolve cost, schedule, or resource conflicts regarding implementation of requirements across production facilities within their span of control
  • Authorized to serve as the authority for definition and/or resolution of policy and procedure matters regarding compliance of requirements within the Production facilities

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major and 4 years nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
