From your PASSION to ours

The Production Manager in Whey Plant is responsible for ensuring the department is running smoothly and in a safe and productive way. Under the Assistant Plant Director, the Production Manager will implement policies and procedures and make recommendations for improvements in the dairy and ingredient manufacturing process and equipment and operations, and procedures with a strong focus on microbiological, chemical, and engineering principles.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, leading a production area, implement project with food safety impact (microbiological / chemistry topics), interviewing, hiring, training of employees, production planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, and coaching employees for improvement. Work closely with employees, supervisors, and report any issues to the Assistant Plant Director.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

* Assist the Assistant Plant Director to enhance the technical and financial performance of the area he/she will cover.

* Lead or participate in implementing the Whey plant new projects/ Continuous Improvement projects with his/her experience in dairy manufacturing good practices focused on microbiological-chemistry projects / quality and process improvement projects (i.e. : air treatment to upgrade microbiological food safety)

* Responsible for directing adjustments of the manufacturing process to maintain conformance of standards, specifications, and customer requirements.

* Responsible for maintaining all GMP and regulatory requirements.

* Helps to maintain compliance with workplace and government mandated standards (FDA, USDA, OSHA, etc.).

* Responsible for a variety of reports to include volume, yields, quality, productivity, and efficiency.

* Works with Production planners to plan weekly schedules.

* Participate to build weekly employee schedules and plans, manages vacations for both hourly and supervisor reports.

* Participates in budget and capex process and provides data as needed.

* Responsible for Control of department supply budget.

* May be required to collaborate with outside vendors.

* Lead weekly Quality /Maintenance/Production meetings.

* Work with other department managers as needed to ensure total plant success.

Requirements

Qualified applicants will contribute the following:

Education

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. Engineering, specifically Chemical related Engineering or Food Science focus helpful.

* 8-10 years of job-related experience in the food industry required (dairy preferred)

Experience

* Five plus years of Supervisory or production management experience necessary.

* Experience in dairy required and food production, packaging, warehouse, or distribution.

Specialized Knowledge

* Dairy process and engineering for food safety and proper design in project implementation

* Food safety - microbiological / chemistry knowledge -

* Deep understanding of microbiological and chemical safety principles, including contamination control, sterile process design, and optimization of ingredient quality.

* Understanding of principles from related fields, such as bioprocess engineering, with an emphasis on microbiological and chemical quality assurance.

* OSHA, Food Safety, FDA, and USDA.

* Knowledge of ISO and certifications within the food industry.

* Computer and Systems (Microsoft Word and Excel).

Skills / Abilities

* Effective and Proficient communicator, written and verbal.

* Good problem solving and analysis skills.

* Ability to manage time efficiently and organizational skills.

* Effectively manage people.

Physical Requirements

* Whey plant is a difficult environment to work in, Physical operations happen in specifics conditions sometimes (heat/powder dust) and with stairs to reach top of high equipment (Evaps/dryer/silos)

* Experience working in environments with strict hygiene, safety, and quality controls is highly desirable.
