Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Development provides high-level fundraising support and coordination for the assigned College/School Unit Leaders within the Office of Institutional Advancement (IA). The Assistant Director is responsible for essential tasks related to maintaining and building annual giving and recognition programs for the unit(s) and the relationships with alumni and donors. In addition to deploying a targeted engagement program, they will work in a robust, complex database of constituent data and generate stewardship and giving reports.

The Assistant Director of Development will report directly to the Assistant Vice President of Development and support multiple colleges and schools. This position does not have supervisory responsibility. This is a hybrid position, working on-campus several days a week.

Essential Functions



  • In coordination with central IA Engagement, serve as the liaison to Units efforts to execute mailed and electronic appeals and solicitations for the assigned College/Schools, including generating lists, partnering with the development writers, and preparing materials at direction of the lead development officer.
  • Serve as the "donor concierge" for the Units by simplifying the donor experience, serves as a first response to calls to give or online giving, drafts mail/notes/emails, plans campus visits, shares impact stories and helps in stewarding donors.
  • Responsible for the gift acknowledgement process of donors $1K and above across the Units to ensure timely recognition of gift to Drexel University.
  • Partner with the Assistant Vice President(s) to develop a yearly outreach calendar for mailings and solicitations and determine strategies for each segment.
  • Proactively monitor engagement to identify and launch initiatives that drive donations.
  • Lead annual fundraising efforts for unit-specific initiatives.
  • Generate reports to be used to analyze program effectiveness, identify donor candidates for upgrade, and identify trends, using Tableau and Advance.
  • Maintain donor and Unit records for the Assistant Vice President(s).
  • Work with the Assistant Vice Presidents and Lead development offers to determine the strategy for personal outreach and stewardship as follow up on events, appeals and major gift donors.
  • Gathers story ideas, drafts content, and conducts research in support of development publications, case materials, articles and donor profiles as instructed by the Assistant Vice President(s).
  • Drafts correspondence such as event briefing documents, acknowledgements, proposals, proofreads and edits materials for accuracy and clarity.
  • Assists in the coordination of various on and off-campus special events, including department-wide events such as Day of Giving, Alumni Weekend, and Commencement, among others.
  • Execute outbound touchpoints with constituents using customized one-to-one outreach to engage annual giving donors, reactive lapsed donors and acquire engaged non-donors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications



  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a fundraising or non-profit environment.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office365 (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take direction from multiple avenues.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade J. Compensation for this grade ranges from $47,490 - $71,230 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
