JOB SUMMARY Directs, plans, assigns, and monitors the activities of the Finishing Department, which consist of the flow of all finished materials; sheet, individual piece, or roll inspection; and overall quality control. Finishing operation may include any combination of the following: cutting, laminating, weeding, packaging, folding, scoring, or any other process required to finish the printed piece before delivery to the customer. Assist in coordinating daily production schedule with Printing, Finishing and Shipping Departments. Analyze, compute, and measure materials for production set-up sheets, die patterns, trim sheets, etc. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of non-supervisory personnel in the finishing department. Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assisting and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs, plans, assigns, and monitors the activities of the Finishing Department.
- Monitors the quality standard of finished goods according to company and customer specifications.
- Assist in coordinating the daily plant production schedule with the Cutting and Finishing Departments and assign overtime and utilize temporary staff as necessary to keep company commitments
- Verifies accuracy and completeness of information on job work orders. Helps develop accurate bills of materials (Distros)
- Excellent visual acuity to distinguish color and hue variations, proportional sizes, measurements and spacing, print clarity, etc.
- Operate all department equipment and hand tools at a high skill level and in accordance with all OSHA and Vomela safety regulations. Use safety equipment as directed.
- Lift and move objects weighing at least 60 pounds.
- Involved with the hiring, training, discipline and termination of department personnel in accordance with Vomela's established policies and procedures.
- Assist in the establishment and implementation of the Finishing Departments production standards, train department personnel and ensure that these standards are met or exceeded.
- Prepare and process vinyl applications and hand trim panels to custom sizes.
- Train staff in, as well as perform vinyl cutting, on the flat-bed and other computer cutting machines, weeding, pre-masking and cutting apart the vinyl sheets.
- Review, complete and sign-off on quality control sheets upon completion of each job order for accuracy and completeness.
- Requisition materials and services and oversee the maintenance of adequate inventory of supplies, coordinating with Purchasing Department.
- Oversee and coordinate the maintenance of department machines, computers and equipment
- Oversee and assist in maintaining Finishing Department cleanliness.
- Other duties as assigned
CRITICAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Three or more years' experience in finishing and production.
- Two years supervising and managing staff and production schedules.
- Strong math aptitude, logical conceptual thinker, analytical and problem-solving skills, leadership, supervisory, and motivational skills.
- Strong math skills to accurately analyze, compute and measure materials for production
- Bilingual in English and other predominate languages in finishing area not required, but helpful
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines, short- and long-range planning skills.
- Ability to handle several diverse functions concurrently.
- Ability to work with detail and at the same time, grasp overall scope of projects.
- Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills; ability to give direction, delegate tasks, coach, train and motivate employees.
- Knowledge and understanding of printing, finishing and die cutting equipment operations a plus
- Excellent skill in utilizing standard art department hand tools.
- Ability to accurately compute proportional measurements and spacing with a ruler or tape measure.
- Ability to work with various printing substrates, pressure sensitive vinyl, PVC, acrylic, paper and board.
- Competency in English communication skills - verbal, reading, writing.
