Position Summary:

Under the direction of the QA Manager, the QA Sanitation Supervisor directly verifies the sanitation performance of the facility through direct observation on equipment break down/inspection, employee practices/techniques, and analyzing data. Through these duties the Supervisor will help formulate corrective action plans in conjunction with the sanitation task team and close the loop by validating the solution. Responsible for planning, scheduling, and organizing the QA technicians to meet all job requirements while adhering to product specifications, GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP and governmental requirements. Supports manufacturing in the production of finished products.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Focus on quality assurance and sanitation requirements. Notify and advise Sanitation/Production Supervisor of problems and the effective correction of problems. Establish measures to assist in the sanitation and/or manufacturing process. Advise production and technical services in preventing potential problems. Maintain communications with all shifts on problems and or potential issues affecting sanitation and/or production
  • Analyze and report on all sanitation and quality data, which is to include weekly and monthly reports on swab results, trends, environmental testing, corrective actions and pre-op inspections
  • Responsible for monitoring overall performance of both sanitation and quality associates, which includes training employees, planning and assigning and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Coordinate with QA Manager in investigating and resolving sanitation gaps in regards to performance, equipment, and supplies. This encompasses all quality and food safety issues, includes the reporting of findings and development of corrective action measures
  • Review Hold Tag Report and provide technical assistance in handling products for re-blend, re-boxing, etc.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and training of new policies, procedures and/or programs
  • Works regularly with other management staff in an effort to develop and maintain most efficient quality assurance procedures for respective areas. Participates in third-party audits, HACCP audits, and performs audits of facility with production management
  • Is an advocate of safety within the facility and follows all safety procedures and company policies pertaining to employee and product safety
  • Responsible for following all food safety policies, procedures and regulatory criteria including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated preventive controls
  • Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in Food Science
  • Prior supervisory experience and/or leadership role in food manufacturing sanitation and quality assurance function is preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong working knowledge of sanitation techniques/strategies, HACCP and quality systems for a manufacturing facility
  • Must be able to problem solve, show a high attention to detail and be highly self-motivated
  • Must possess an understanding of chemical analysis and testing
  • Proven ability to work under pressure in an extremely fast paced environment and meet aggressive deadlines and make effective decisions
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Ventura Foods reserves the right to pay outside of the given range based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: candidate skills and experience, complexity of the job, budgetary factors, and location/geography. Typical shifts are 8-12 hours per day. Additional unscheduled time after hours and on weekends may also be required. Employees must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by Company policy and/or legal requirements. In addition, certain jobs may require employees to:

  • Work outside and/or in adverse temperatures which could include extreme heat, cold, and humidity;
  • Be exposed to vibrations, chemicals used inoperations, fumes and food allergens (may include soy, dairy and other allergens); and
  • Be required to work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet.
