Overview The Public Drinking Water Program is seeking an Environmental Analyst excited to protect Vermont Drinking Water through surface water and groundwater protection. You will join a collaborative team of one other source protection specialist and two hydrogeologists, and you will be working closely with other internal programs - Operations, Compliance, Capacity Development, and Engineering - to help communities achieve source water protection for this and future generations of Vermonters served by public drinking water. This job could be for you if you would like to: Develop a strategy to revitalize the Source Protection Program to serve Public Water Systems and Vermonters, using a data-driven approach Coordinate and facilitate meetings to engage with critical internal and external partners for input on source water protection Assess source water vulnerability pertaining to chemical and nutrient impacts, through hydrologic and hydrogeologic site- and risk assessments Develop website content and create a variety of outreach pieces (e.g. infographics, fact sheets, social media posts, presentations etc.) that aim to educate the public on Source Water Protection Optimize the online process to submit Public Water System Source Protection Plans We are specifically looking for someone with: Personal and professional interest in drinking water, chemistry, hydrogeology, public health and program optimization Knowledge of federal and state drinking water regulations, environmental regulations, and/or experience working with the public Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), Adobe, and computer databases Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing Experience with ArcGIS or other mapping tools The Public Drinking Water Program offers: A hybrid work model with minimal in-office time required once trained Field site visits during sanitary surveys A mission-driven, supportive team committed to technical excellence and public service A comprehensive benefits package valued at approximately 30% of total compensation, along with flexible scheduling and a strong commitment to work-life balance. Environmental Factors Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND one (1) or more years of experience in a natural resources field. OR Bachelor's degree in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND two (2) or more years of experience in a natural resources field. OR Five (5) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field.
