Role Summary:

The Issue Management & Event Assessment team is responsible for the tracking and resolution of issues that arise during the verification and testing of self-driving vehicles. Such issues may range across vehicle platform, sensor stack, self-driving system as well as the system's interactions with the infrastructure. The Fleet Issue Management Engineer will lead efforts to track, manage and prioritize the resolution of fleet events working closely with internal developers and external suppliers.

Role Responsibilities:

Main responsibilities (80%)

* Understand, document, and communicate complex software and other technical issues at a sufficient level to assign resolution of the issue to the appropriate internal and/or external team

* Evaluate the severity and actionability of fleet events and work with key stakeholders to determine their safety criticality and resolution priority

* Assess the impact of safety critical events and take prompt corrective actions which may include recommendations for fleet level advisories

* Create and report on metrics that monitor and track the progress on the resolution of performance, safety, reliability, and other key attributes of the self-driving vehicle

* Lead the charge in the application of statistical methods to support high quality and meaningful data analysis

* Drive efforts to improve and develop software tools and scripts to aid in automation of issue identification, test execution, severity calculation and other reporting.

* Assist in the design and documentation of complex cross functional processes across global teams spanning the US, Germany, and other locations.

* Maintain a system and structure to ensure accuracy and data quality for issue management and resolution globally

* Make a significant impact on the Issue Management & Event Assessment team's achievements

Supporting responsibilities (20%)

* Collaborate with the global team to enhance processes, databases and tools for data analysis needed to support issue management and reporting

* Support internal developers and external suppliers on issue root cause identification and tracking to resolution

* Communicate Issue Management topics with leaders across the organization

* Educate teammates on the nuance of the AV system by becoming an expert on the SDS

* Mentor peers to ensure quality and consistency

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Years of Experience:




  • 7+ years of experience in a quality focused role in the development of complex, software-controlled systems.




Education:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, or a related field - required
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, or a related field - desired


Skills:

* Technical leadership across a diverse team

* Excellent communication skills with ability to span a large and global diverse team

* Proven self-starter mindset and the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision

* Be able to handle rapidly changing priorities

* Proven track record of delivering high priority assignments efficiently

* Strong desire to learn new skills related to technology and software

Specialized Skills - Required:

* Experience debugging complex software systems

* Experience with defect tracking systems (Jira or equivalent)

* Statistical methods for data analysis

* Strong foundation in systems engineering fundamentals

* Strong system verification & testing fundamentals

Specialized Skills - Desired:

* Experience in developing and/or testing autonomous systems

* Automotive engineering experience

* Experience with requirements management and requirements-driving testing

* Working knowledge of kinematics

Work Flexibility:

* Schedule accommodation of working time zone differences between US and Germany when necessary

* Up to 15% travel between US locations (Belmont, CA and Austin, TX) and Europe (Munich / Wolfsburg, Germany)

Compensation:

Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, industry-based experience, skills, training, credentials, and other qualifications.

The salary range for this role is $130,000 - $170000, based on education and experience.
