What You'll Do

This is a 5-day-a-week position that is fully in-person.

The Staff Clinician, a psychologist and integral member of the student health service team, works in a fast-paced environment to provide evidence-based, culturally responsive mental health services to students, along with consultation for the campus community. Services include but are not limited to evaluation and treatment of individuals and student couples, group counseling, crisis intervention, liaison/outreach activities, and crisis management.

Using both short-term and long-term care models, the Staff Clinician effectively engages with students from diverse identities and life experiences, while cultivating an inclusive, welcoming environment that supports outreach efforts and encourages a culture of help-seeking.

Responsibilities include:

Psychological Services

  • Provides students with comprehensive psychological care and support services, including intake assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, and other case management needs that may arise
  • Ensures same-day appointment availability and accommodates urgent needs
  • Conducts occasional student couple work, group treatment sessions, etc.
  • Delivers services for urgent care, crisis intervention, and referral coordination
  • Consults with other members of the Tufts community regarding students of concern
  • Performs other clinical duties, as assigned

Administrative Functions

  • Utilizes electronic medical records (EMR) system for scheduling and documentation
  • Ensures timely and effective completion of clinical records/documentation per university policies and procedures
  • Participates in team meetings, staff meetings, and other meetings, as required
  • Adheres to applicable laws, regulations, and professional codes of ethics

Outreach and Training

  • Plays an active role in outreach/liaison activities to the Tufts University community
  • Takes part in campus meetings and presentations centered on mental health
  • Contributes to orientation activities for incoming and returning students
  • Acts as a mental health consultant to students, faculty, and staff
  • Enhances professional competence in the field through required in-service training
  • Expands knowledge of the latest research and treatment approaches to ensure effective care

Emergency Services

  • Directs assessment and crisis management, safety planning, and arranges for ER evaluation, when necessary
  • Works with other campus services, including campus police, student health service, Deans, etc.

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or PsyD in psychology
  • Licensed (or license-eligible) in Massachusetts as a Psychologist Provider
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise working with diverse populations, including, but not limited to, communities of color, LGBQI+ students, Transgender and non-binary students, as well as students of different ethnicities and immigration histories
  • Prior clinical experience required in brief and long-term therapy, preferably with college students or young adults, and a strong generalist background addressing common issues such as stress, anxiety, eating and body image concerns, trauma, substance abuse, self-injury, suicidality, mood disorders, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorder, etc.
  • On rare occasions, some evening hours may be required

Preferred Requirements:

  • 3+ years of post-license clinical experience and experience addressing crises in a college or university setting
  • Bilingual/multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply

Pay Range

Minimum $78,050.00, Midpoint $97,600.00, Maximum $117,150.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
