About the Job

We are seeking a research professional with a background working on dairy farms and around dairy cattle, collecting data for research projects. The ideal candidate is comfortable collecting biological samples from cows and observing cow behavior. The successful
candidate will join 2 collaborative research teams focused on improving dairy cattle health and management, specifically through detecting early lameness and enhancing hoof health and transition management.

Primary Responsibilities:
Sampling of blood, milk, urine of dairy cows. (30%)

Visual locomotion scoring of dairy cows in commercial dairy farms (training will be provided) (30%)

Within Minnesota and across the United States
Management of data and samples collected on farms (20%)

Occasional lab work including analysis of blood work and sample processing (10%)

Assist in development to extension/research communication materials aimed at farm personnel. (10%)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
BA/BS with 2 years of relevant work experience or combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at 6 years.
At least 1 year of experience working on dairy farms.
years preferably in an agricultural field
Attention to detail and strong capacity for organization of tasks and workflows
Ability to work independently yet collaboratively
Strong work ethic with demonstrated productivity
Able to get a MN driver's license
Interest in and willingness to learn about dairy cattle applied research.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in agricultural research, particularly dairy or other livestock species.
Previous experience in data collection
Ability to communicate in Spanish with farm workers and assist in translation of research materials.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00 - $27.16 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
