Job Description: Overview Deriva Energy, a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable U.S., who is a nationwide leader in sustainable energy provides wind, solar, resilient backup power, and managed energy services to over 1,000 projects across the U.S., with a total electric capacity of more than 5,100 megawatts of nonregulated renewable energy. Kit Carson Wind is a site consisting of 34 GE 1.5 ESS turbines, generating 51 megwatts of electricity. We are seeking a Wind Technician for our Kit Karson Wind Farm in Burlington, CO. Our Wind Technicians are a vital part of our organization, and we take pride in hiring and training the best in the industry. This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement. This is both the entry level and initial training level for the series. The hiring manager may elect to fill this position at the higher Wind Technician II Level dependent upon a candidate's skills and experience. We are looking for a Wind Technician I or II to maintain all aspects of our turbines (e.g., electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.). The physical work location is at the Kit Karson Wind Farm- Burlington, Colorado. Responsibilities
Always maintain a high level of safety awareness Climb heights 300 ft. and greater several times daily Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems Perform troubleshooting to identify the root cause of an issue Perform energy isolation in accordance with all Hazardous Energy Control/ Switching and Tagging Procedures (LOTO) Perform pad mount Transformer switching in accordance with all Hazardous Energy Controls Procedures Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring and evaluation Maintaining all aspects (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of turbines in a safe, high quality, and efficient manner Maintain EH&S Documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) within Maximo
Basic Qualifications Wind Technician - Level I
Wind Technician - Level II
High School/GED External Candidates - In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (3+) years of related work experience. Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within the probationary period. Internal Candidates - In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (1+) year of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician. Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator1 JPM Completed.
Desired Qualifications
AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study. Experience with GE 1.X platform, preferably GE 1.5 ESS Turbines More than 1 year experience with wind turbines: troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance. TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training Forklift certified Experience with 400 VDC and 690 VAC motors 24VDC- 290VAC experience and understanding High voltage and substation maintenance experience Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools) Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work, Work Time Pro, and My Time management systems Microsoft Office Including Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook TEAMS application competency CPR and AED Training Certification
Working Conditions
Valid Driver's License required Any travel to projects Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions, chemicals, or solvents Operate equipment including but not limited to forklifts and commercial motor vehicles Ability to climb and work on turbine towers with heights up to 300 ft. daily Ability to lift 50 lbs individually Walking, Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds Working in all-weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow) Completion of OEM or third-party technical specialty training program. Must pass a background check and drug test prior to hire Safe Working Weight Requirement- This position contains a weight restriction of 265 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading. Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within an hour commute to their assigned work location.
