Position Summary

The Salvation Army Northern Division Headquarters (DHQ) in Roseville, MN, is committed to "Doing the Most Good" by supporting worship, housing, and service centers, addressing community needs, and administering emergency disaster services.

The Social Media and Content Specialist serves as the primary coordinator of social media efforts, managing over 70 channels to support digital communication and engagement goals. This role creates platform-specific content, including original video, and monitors performance to inform strategy and optimize reach. Additional responsibilities include managing website content, maintaining Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices, supporting divisional events and campaigns, and assisting senior team members with various initiatives that enhance visibility and community impact.

$25.00 - $35.00/hour, 40 hours/week

Essential Functions (approximate time spent)



  • Social Media Management & Coordination (60%): Serve as the primary coordinator for the division's digital presence across 70+ social media channels. Manage the social media calendar, develop platform-specific content, schedule posts, and ensure consistent branding and messaging. Monitor performance and engagement to inform future content strategies.
  • Video Content Creation (20%): Develop original video content for social media platforms and digital campaigns. Responsibilities include scripting, shooting, editing, and publishing short-form video to support storytelling, promotion, and engagement goals.
  • Web Content & SEO (10%): Post, update, and manage web content using the division's content management system (CMS). Ensure all content follows established SEO best practices and contributes to online visibility and user experience.
  • Event Support & Activation (10%): Assist with activation events and divisional campaigns. Duties include preparation, day-of support (on-site or virtual), and follow-up responsibilities. Provide additional support to senior team members on various marketing initiatives and cross-functional projects as needed.



Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience in social media coordination, digital marketing, or communications.
  • Demonstrated experience with video production (shooting, editing, and publishing) for social media platforms is preferred.
  • Proficiency with content management systems (CMS), social media management tools, and current SEO best practices is required.
  • Experience supporting event planning, coordination, or public engagement activities is a plus.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit or mission-driven organizations is preferred but not required.
  • Must successfully pass background checks. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record (MVR check) are required.

Working Conditions



  • Work is primarily sedentary and performed in a standard office environment, with frequent use of computers and digital tools.
  • Standard business hours apply, with occasional evenings and weekends required to support events or digital campaigns.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Regular, clear communication with internal team members and external partners is essential.
  • Position is based in a professional office setting with eligibility for flexible or remote-friendly work arrangements, as approved by leadership.

Driving/Travel Requirements



  • Occasional driving throughout the metro and infrequent travel to Salvation Army locations throughout Minnesota and North Dakota utilizing an agency or personal vehicle.
