Role Summary

Rivian Design Office Operations is seeking a Lead Studio Technical Specialist. The Design Office Operations team is
responsible for creating physical assets to validate design proposals and provide 3D scanning, additive manufacturing,
CNC machining, fabrication and paint support.


This role requires a highly organized self-starter who has a thorough understanding of fabrication and fixturing
concepts, methods, and procedures and a proven track record for managing complex fabrication projects in an
iterative and fast-paced environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional partners to facilitate the creation of
physical models and support the studio with 3D scans while occasionally assisting with other related activities such as
3D printing, light fabrication, and model assembly.


Responsibilities

Physical Property Design Engineer & Build Project Manager (Primary)
* Create innovative, cost effective, and efficient design solutions for physical properties.

* Produce CAD drawings used to fabricate physical properties.

* Create electronic b-side surfaces and attachment schemes for detailed components and assemblies

* Create statements of work, reviews quotes, and process purchase requests for goods and services

* Review and prioritize fabrication requests with input from Lead Studio Fabricator

* Follow-up with requestor to confirm build requirements and coordinate with internal and external shops to ensure
timely delivery of properties.

* Provide regular updates to project status and work through open items with customers.


3D Metrology (Primary)

* Complete requests for 3D scans and h-point verification.

* Process raw scan data verifying accuracy prior to release to customer

* Review and prioritize scan and h-point requests

* Follow-up with requestor to confirm scan and h-point scope and timing

* Provide regular updates to project status and work through open items with customers

* Serve as Lead Trainer

* Document Standard Operating Procedures and Best Practices

* Lead Continuous Process Improvement initiatives staying current with industry practices and technology.

* Ensure equipment is in proper working condition

* Troubleshoot issues with the manufacturer, request service as required.

* Confirm preventative maintenance of equipment and system software updates are completed.


3D Print Operator (Secondary)

* Serve as back-up 3D print operator

* Produce 3D printed parts from customer supplied data

* Process data and stage parts within the machines print envelope

* Clean parts prior to delivery.

* Review and prioritize 3D print requests

Follow-up with requestors to confirm data readiness, and material selection based on part requirements.
* Provide regular updates with regards to the build status and work through open items with customers.

Fabricator (Secondary)

* Cut, bond, and fasten metal, foam, wood, and plastic materials to print using standard shop equipment

* Apply clay and assemble full size and scale properties

* Check shop inventory and order materials as required

Qualifications

* 5 to 10 years of related experience.
* Proven experience managing complex programs and/or multiple projects simultaneously.

* Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and a willingness to pivot as needed.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and superior organizational skills.

* Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

* CAD experience using CATIA, Alias, or equivalent.

* Experience operating 3D Scan Equipment

* Proficiency in Jira, Confluence, Slack, Coupa and Google/Microsoft Suite.

* Flexibility to occasionally work non-standard hours to ensure time sensitive jobs are completed on time

* Bachelor's degree or certification in Engineering, Fine Arts, or equivalent.


Pay Disclosure

Salary Range Irvine-Based Applicants: $149,700 -$187,100 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, and other factors permitted by law).
