Position Description: Tech Polishing Operator

Basic Purpose:

Employee is skilled in the following areas: polishing mold/dies to specifications finishes, die/mold assembly according to prints, finished die quality inspection according to specifications, die evaluation from external supplier's workmanship for (chrome, texture, and finishing standards), and skilled in local/spot repairs in chroming and etching techniques. Responsible for blue print interpretation and be able to ensure a quality product. Capable of working with others and maintaining a positive work environment. Is cost conscious, schedule adherent, uses time efficiently, and is innovative.

Principle Accountabilities:



  1. Responsible for polishing, quality evaluation from external suppliers, finished die inspections for specialty tooling operation, die assembly and local/spot repairs in chroming and etching adhering to BJA's and safe work practices.
  2. Coordinate all floor mold/die movement activities as defined in the work assignments congruent with operations schedules and communicating goals for shift.
  3. Proficiency in mathematics, viewing 2D drafting prints, and general computing skills
  4. Responsible for communicating work status with crew members to ensure a smooth transition of information and responsibilities.
  5. Perform part inspection using micrometers, calipers, height indicator, chrome gauge etc.
  6. Assist department management in providing feedback on schedule progress, required materials and tooling inventories to meet production goals/schedules.


Challenges:

The challenge for this position is to get maximum product throughput to meet or exceed customer specifications. The demand for dies exceeds the function's capacity to produce. It is therefore critical that the function achieve maximum output.

Knowledge and Experience:



  • 1-5 years' experience in a Machine shop in finishing and/or polishing techniques for molds/dies
  • 1-3 years' experience with various materials in finishing/polishing techniques
  • Proficient in the use of measuring equipment (+/- 0.002" tolerances) to inspect your own work
  • Minimum high school degree
  • Trade school desired
  • Motivational skills
  • Strong communication skills


The minimum annual base salary for this position is $48,000 + bonus + benefits. Base pay may increase depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience. This information is specific to the state of IL and may not be applicable to other areas.
