McGraw Hill is currently seeking a Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis to join our team.

How can you make an impact?
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager, FP&A to join our dynamic finance team. The Senior Manager, FP&A will be a key business partner to our Technology group and responsible for providing financial planning, analysis, and reporting to support strategic decision-making. This role will work closely with various departments to develop budgets, forecasts, and analyze financial performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement. The ideal candidate is a strong analytical thinker with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

This role reports to the Senior Director of FP&A- Technology. This role is open to candidates that permanently reside in the United States and works from a remote home office. Travel is required several times per year for in-person team meetings.

What you will be doing:

Financial Forecasting and Analysis

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working with engineering leaders to develop realistic and achievable budgets that reflect the latest roadmap of strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain rolling forecasts, incorporating current business trends, accounting for changes in demand by the business units, factoring in the impact of changes in labor allocation, and anticipated future performance.
  • Analyze actual financial results against budget and forecast, identifying variances and providing insightful explanations.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly financial reports and presentations for senior management, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and trend analysis.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic initiatives, investment decisions, and scenario planning.
  • Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis as needed to support business decisions.

Business Partnering

  • Serve as a key financial business partner to our Product Development Engineering leadership team by providing financial guidance and support.
  • Collaborate with department heads to understand their business drivers and incorporate them into financial plans.
  • Provide financial insights to support decision-making and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
  • Communicate financial results and insights effectively to non-financial audiences.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization.

Capital Expenditure Support

  • Support the development of the annual CAPEX budget by providing financial data, analysis, and guidance to product and engineering teams.
  • Assist in the evaluation of CAPEX proposals, conducting financial analysis (e.g., NPV, IRR, payback period) as needed.
  • Monitor CAPEX spending against budget, identifying variances and reporting them to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Prepare CAPEX reports for senior management and maintain the CAPEX forecast in coordination with the engineering and product teams.
  • Provide financial support to project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Work with accounting to ensure proper capitalization and depreciation of assets in accordance with GAAP.

Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial planning and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of FP&A processes and procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to financial systems and tools.
  • Automate reporting where possible by leveraging our current technology infrastructure.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field required. MBA or Master's degree in Finance preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis (FP&A) with a minimum of 3 years supporting a software development organization required.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
  • Experience with financial reporting and analysis tools.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, pivot tables, and macros).
  • Experience with financial planning software (Adaptive Insights, Anaplan).
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience in software development tools (Apptio, JIRA, Confluence).
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).
  • CPA, CFA, or other relevant professional certifications preferred, such as Agile.

The pay range for this position is between $105,000 - 140,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual incentive plan is included as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
