Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research seeks to improve the health of individuals, families, and populations by understanding the problems, issues, and alternatives in the design and delivery of health care services. This is accomplished through an interdisciplinary program of research, consultation, technical assistance, and training that focuses on timely and policy-relevant questions concerning the accessibility, adequacy, organization, cost, and effectiveness of health care services, and the dissemination of this information to policymakers and the general public. |
Position Summary |
The Research Associate (RA) will conduct applied research under the direction of a Sheps Center principal investigator (PI). The RA will work on research projects funded by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy. The primary responsibility will be providing analysis and writing briefs related to rural hospital and health center financial indicators and community characteristics. Secondary responsibilities include research responsibilities that will support PIs in the NC Rural Health Research Program. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Course work from a school of public health (Health Policy Management).
* Analytical experience
* Programming experience
* Experience working with large health care data sets (Medicare cost report data,
CMS Provider of Services,
FEMA and other Index data).
* Must have experience working with rural health research and policy |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience writing findings briefs and manuscripts for the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy |
