Our Team

At our Corpus Christi refinery, PLC technicians are recognized as subject matter experts (SMEs) regarding the specification, installation, maintenance, configuration, life-cycle management, reliability/availability, troubleshooting, upgrading, and the best practices of PLC applications in current use in the plant and as recommended by the vendor and industry. Our PLC technicians apply their knowledge and talents while collaborating daily with (DCS) Board Operators, Process Control Engineers, IT engineers, and Project Engineers, their design teams, and project stakeholders to achieve stable and safe site operations and business-focused results.

The primary PLC technologies at Corpus Christi refinery are Triconex and Allen-Bradley PLCs. We program PLC HMIs with Wonderware software. We interface the PLCs with DeltaV and Foxboro I/A.

What You Will Do

*Diagnose issues and perform repairs on malfunctioning
PLCs to ensure optimal performance.

*Provide support to operators and engineers in
comprehending and troubleshooting programmed PLC
logic.

*Collaborate with instrument and analyzer techs and
electricians to resolve unexpected results from IO
wired to PLCs.

*Work closely with SIS engineers to develop,
implement, and enhance PLC SIS applications for
improved safety performance.

*Partner with project engineers to define project scopes
that align with business objectives and optimize cost-
effectiveness.

*Work with project designers to reserve system IO,
conduct field walk-downs, and provide guidance for
creating comprehensive and accurate IFC project
design packages, including construction drawings,
Cause & Effects drawings, and Sequence of Events
documentation; quality check IFC packages (scope,
drawings, engineered equipment, bills of material).

*Apply hot-fixes, security updates, and perform
hardware and software upgrades for PLC and HMI
systems to maintain security and functionality.

*Identify and propose enhancements to PLC equipment
to address current and future requirements of internal
customers, considering equipment lifecycle.

*Work with instrument and DCS technicians and
console operators to commission new or modified PLC
configurations.

*Engage with peers at other FHR sites to exchange
knowledge and learn from their experiences.

*Develop, commission, and resolve issues with OPC,
Modbus, and ethernet interfaces for non-DCS devices,
collaborating with IT engineers as needed.

*Continuously monitor the condition of PLC systems
to ensure their reliability and performance.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

*A minimum of 4 years of experience in servicing,
supporting, and configuring PLC or DCS systems in a
chemical plant, refinery, or a similar industrial
environment.

* Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in
Instrumentation and Process Control Technology,
Electronics, or a related field.

*Hands-on experience with PLC and HMI hardware and
software used in industrial automation and Safety
Instrumented System (SIS) applications.

*Proficiency in communication protocols like Modbus
RTU/TCP and Ethernet I/P as applied in industrial PLC
systems.

*Demonstrated experience working with engineering
documents associated with PLC installations and
projects, including electrical drawings, loop drawings,
Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and
Cause and Effect tables.

*Available for on-call rotation

What Will Put You Ahead

*A minimum of 3 years of experience in maintaining,
constructing, or designing industrial instrumentation
and electrical systems.

*In-depth knowledge of Wonderware software,
Triconex PLC hardware, Allen-Bradley PLC hardware,
and their associated software.

*Practical experience working with Foxboro I/A and
Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

*Proven experience in executing firmware updates,
system upgrades, and online logic modifications for
Triconex and Allen- Bradley PLCs.

*Familiar with large-scale industrial wireless networks
and data communication processes from devices to
end-users.
