Position Summary:

We are looking for a process minded, and data driven Junior Operational Excellence Engineer to join our Operational Excellence team. You would be a key player ensuring continuous process improvement to achieve operational excellence. You, as the Jr Engineer - Operational Excellence, will be responsible for assessing the veracity of Standard work, working with partners and stakeholders to drive improvement, simplicity, and improve production flow within the FL OPS organization. You would partner with functional team members to build lean capability, streamline processes, and to lead projects and lean initiatives. You will employ structured problem solving to improve production processes.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Reporting to the Manager, Operational Excellence, you are responsible for the Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness to meet On Quality, On Time, and On Cost spacecraft deliveries.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams including Production, Program Industrial Management, Mfg. Engineering and Quality teams to continually improve all processes within the Operations organization.
  • Present status of continuous improvement projects to Mgr. Operational Excellence on a regular basis.
  • Application of engineering principles (RCCA, Statical Analysis, Quality tools) to solve technical problems on flight and non-flight components, manufacturing processes, and overall quality of the production lines.
  • Observe processes, measure performance, identify improvement opportunities and work with stakeholders and subject matter experts to implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Accountable for Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Project Management: Assist in managing projects aimed at improving operational performance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with various departments to ensure alignment and successful implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present reports on operational performance and improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate and communicate assigned tasks, projects, and status with the department manager.
  • Establish realistic plans and set short-term and long-term goals.
  • Develop contingency plans.



Qualifications:

Education:



  • Bachelors in industrial and systems engineering degree or equivalent experience.



Experience:



  • 2-6 years' experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Prior small satellite manufacturing and test experience preferred.
  • Prior engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with data mining and understanding of failure modes required.
  • Experience with critical process observation, standard work, 5s, Mistake-proofing, RCCA, Setup Time Reduction.



Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:



  • Working knowledge in Lean Manufacturing and Root Cause Analysis techniques such as (8D, A3, 7 Quality Tools (Cause and effect diagram (also known as Ishikawa diagram), Check sheet, Control charts, Histogram, Pareto chart, Scatter diagram, Stratification or Flowchart, Run chart).
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience of SPC, Inspection methods preferred.
  • Formal training or certification, in Operational Excellence Systems (Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, APQP) a plus.
  • Knowledge of the quality management systems AS9001.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, root cause analysis, critical-thinker, and critical thinking skills.
  • People skills to drive corrective action implementation.
  • Ability to work independently and within the teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively across the organization.
  • Strong networking and relations building skills.
  • Strong background in aerospace industry.



Technical Systems Proficiency:



  • Skilled in the use of Outlook, Excel, Pivot tables, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, and MS- TEAMS.
  • Working knowledge of SAP (or similar ERP system), JIRA, a plus.



Eligibility:



  • U.S. Citizenship required.



Clearance:



  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Active DoD security clearance at Top Secret/ SCI desirable.



Physical Requirements:



  • Carrying: able to carry documents and/or electronic equipment up to 20lbs/9kg.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents and/or electronic equipment up to 20lbs/9kg.
  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.
  • Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
