The Position

The Color Guard Coordinator is a part-time non-bene responsible for all aspects of the color guard section of the marching band. This includes, but is not limited to, writing flag work, writing choreography, teaching flag work and drill coordinates, and assisting the band director in overall show design and the selection of flags and uniforms. The instructor shall attend band camp in August, weekly in-season practices and sectionals, and band staff meetings. The instructor plays a critical role in specialized instruction for color guard members.

Position serves during the academic year, is non-benefited and works a maximum of 160 hours per year.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversees all aspects of the Roanoke College Color Guard program.
  2. Write flag work and choreography
  3. Teach flag work and drill coordinates
  4. Assists the band director in overall show design and the selection of flags and uniforms.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive background in color guard
  • Experiences should include performing at a high level as a member of a high school or college color guard.
  • Performance experience with DCI/WGI or other professional organizations is a plus
  • Experience teaching a color guard is also preferred
