POSITION SUMMARY: The Operations Supervisor under the direction of the Assistant Plant Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day performance of the production, hydrate process, shipping, and kiln process and personnel at the plant. He/she is accountable for the production, hydrate process, shipping, and kiln operations with responsibility for safety performance, production, preventive maintenance indicators, quality, and compliance, for those production-related activities of the plant. The Operations Supervisor must be an engaged person who can handle the demands of a 24-hour/ 7 days per week operation and continually balance the competing needs of production obligations. He/she must possess the skills needed to develop and lead a team in a plant/mining environment. RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS: What are the 5-8 major responsibilities/activities of the role and 2-3 major expectations attributed to each activity? Ensure the most safe, efficient, and economical operation of the plant
Manage the operations, shipping, hydrators and kiln operation in a manner consistent with the vision of LNA Involved in establishing the targets and priorities for the operations, shipping, hydrators and kiln operations to ensure consistent performance around the set plant KPI's (production, maintenance, quality and cost) Responsible for the execution of the objectives in the operations, shipping, hydrators, and kiln operation sections in the plant consistent with Company and Corporate objectives; support the development and the implementation of a strategic plan to meet the objectives; and the monthly and annual review of objective results.
Effective Communications
Apply the consistent fundamental of the product and process quality
Timely response to both internal and external customer demands Monitor overall department performance for production and quality standards to ensure they are being met Ensures that all products produced and shipped to customers from the plant meet quality and customer requirements along with timely delivery.
Budgeting Participation and Engagement
Involved in providing input and suggestion for the plant annual budgeting process Engaged in providing suggestion for potential capital project requests to improvement the shipping and production processes in the plant. Manage manpower utilization in the shipping, hydrators and kiln operations while reviewing request for increases in the workforce if necessary and build the business case to justify the request.
Teamwork and Team Development
Delegates authority to key team members around safety, process controls, quality control, and shipping duties and responsibilities as directed. Coordinate plant activities through planning with other members of the plant management team to ensure plant objectives are met in an effective and efficient manner Provide leadership and mentoring to team members in order to accomplish and achieve plant goals and objectives. Provide direction, development, encourage collaboration, and leadership to all team members in area of responsibility. Provides a strong visional presence and professional leadership style for your team through being active in the plant and providing support and removing bottlenecks as needed. Provide quick and accurate responses to other functional areas such as Supply Chain/Logistics, Procurement, Finance, and HR. Provide accurate and consistent direction and for the hourly workforce. Responsible for working with the Assistant Plant Managers on timely and accurately responses to potential investigation, employees issues, or as safety infractions as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned. ATTRIBUTES:
Prior proven experience in lead person, team leader, supervisor role in operation or shipping processes is required. Knowledge of refractory brick usage and installation is desired Prior experience in heavy industry with large rotating or vertical equipment is desired Proven track record of increasing responsibility and results is required Must be capable of working any shift, on-call, overtime, or seven days a week, if needed. Ability to plan and direct the work of hourly personnel and to train and develop an effective and efficient workforce. Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate on all levels. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Good presentation and public speaking skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines. Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs. Strong understanding of safety, environmental, and the desire to following all established procedures are required. Demonstrated knowledge of environmental regulations and their impact on operations compliance desired Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint software. Previous SAP knowledge is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Must be physically able to perform work assigned. Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations. Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust. Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, working over water, and accessing tunnels. Will be working in an office environment, mining, and mineral processing environment. The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles. The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to travel up to 10% as directed by leadership. REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or technical related field or equivalent proven work and leadership experience in the field is highly desired. PREFFERED EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or other Engineering discipline and additional leadership training and certifications. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 2 - 4 years industrial of experience in a mining, construction, and/or heavy manufacturing environment in a proven leadership role. Prefer lime/minerals experience in management or supervisory role. PREFFERED EXPERIENCE: 3 - 5 years industrial lime experience in a proven leadership role such as lead person, team leader, supervisor.
