Shipping & Inventory Specialist

Position Summary:

The Shipping & Inventory Specialist role is responsible for the site's inventory control, shipping, and transportation/delivery of machinery parts. This role also acts as a team lead, guiding, training, and directing shipping/receiving associates and their day-to-day responsibilities.

Essential/Key Functions:

  • Coordinate inbound freight and direct shipments to customers, vendors, and other sites while tracking priority shipments and resolving issues.

  • Support purchasing and logistics by identifying optimal transport methods, monitoring carrier performance, and minimizing non-value-added steps.

  • Proactively track shipments, communicate status updates, and assist with customs clearance and lost freight issues.

  • Conduct freight analysis, perform metrics reporting, and complete audits to identify opportunities for process improvements and enhance productivity.

  • Perform cycle counts and bin audits to support production and validate inventory accuracy, while conducting daily inventory analysis to resolve discrepancies.

  • Collaborate with all departments to identify root causes of inventory inaccuracies and ensure adequate inventory levels align with organizational goals.

  • Develop and implement inventory control procedures to meet targets and communicate discrepancies to relevant parties.

  • Safely operate material handling equipment, gather data for monthly metrics, and utilize computer systems for accurate inventory transactions.

  • Actively engage in cost reduction, continuous improvement, and 5S team activities while documenting SOPs for ongoing enhancements.

  • Train and cross-train associates to meet production demands, provide performance feedback to management, and assign workloads for team readiness.

  • Fill operational gaps by loading/unloading trucks and preparing materials for shipment, while fostering effective communication across operations.

  • Review and report quality and performance issues, respond to operational disruptions, and ensure adherence to safety protocols.

Minimum (Required) Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in logistics/supply chain management or similar degree, or 5+ years' relative experience, or combination of both education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of logistics, trade controls, transportation, and inventory systems / software.
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or warehouse environment preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and with use of computers.
  • Experience with ERP systems or visualization systems
  • Customer service mind set
  • Must be able to work independently and under time constraints.
  • Transportation experience/background preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • lift and move up to 50lbs.
