Department Information

Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction

Job Summary

Provide strong leadership and management for Construction functional area within University Facilities Planning, Design and Construction Department. Coordinate construction, and/or modifications of University physical facilities. Oversee facilities infrastructure and real property construction on campus. Participate in project programming, design and lead construction management services for new facilities and for repair and renovation projects. Lead project managers, engineers and other team members involved in major facilities project management, construction management, and/or facilities design for the expanding University physical plant. Promote Division of Facilities Services through efficient and consistent delivery of design and construction services to campus customers.

Responsibilities
  • Participated in and assist with planning, programming, and design and oversee construction management services for new facilities and for repair and renovation projects for existing university buildings as well as responsible for providing accurate estimates for those projects
  • Provide strong management and leadership for staff of design professionals composed of project managers, engineers, and support teams
  • Collaborate with FPDC leadership in master planning activities, development of long-range capital improvement plans for the University, and preparation of annual reports
  • Coordinate with appropriate campus user groups and agencies to develop complete comprehensive programs for all facility related construction projects
  • Develop and communicate accurate construction project estimates throughout each process
  • Assist and participate in the selection of professional engineering and architectural consultants for University projects and studies
  • Continually assess and upgrade the University's public works contracting procedures in compliance with USG Board of Regents' policies, including bidding and awarding, administering contracts
  • Manage construction contracts process from conception to close
  • Manage the University's annual Major Repair and Rehabilitation (MRR) program for submission to the Board of Regents
  • Collaborate development of campus-wide design standards for both new construction and alteration/renovation projects and ensure compliance with those standards in all campus projects
  • Collaborate with Division of Facilities Operations team members and the campus community to provide engineering, technical and architectural assistance
  • Represent University's interests in projects by review of plans, monitoring and inspecting of construction activities and materials, final inspection, and warranty enforcement


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree in construction management, building construction, engineering or related field

Required Experience
  • Ten (10) or more years of related work experience


Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Project management professional certification
  • Professional engineering certification

Preferred Experience
  • Experience in construction in higher education


Proposed Salary

$78,652 - $88,934

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

  • Ability to manage project contracts and supervise staff members

  • Knowledge of architectural and engineering drafting practices
  • Knowledge of building construction and renovation practices
