Salary Range: $188K to 216K*

Position Overview:
The Vice President, Communications & Board Engagement is a strategic leadership role responsible for shaping and executing the organization's communications strategy while managing engagement with the Board of Directors. The VP leads internal and external communications, corporate and executive messaging, and media relations. This role partners closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to align communications with business objectives and enhance stakeholder trust. Serving as a key advisor to the CEO, this senior leader plays a crucial role in managing board and executive relations to ensure that the Board of Directors is effectively engaged, informed, and aligned with the organization's mission and strategic priorities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the organization's mission, values, and business objectives. Provide ongoing communications and digital direction, ensuring the strategy evolves in alignment with organizational goals.
- Partner with key stakeholders across the organization to develop a master content calendar to proactively drive and streamline communications execution across owned, earned, social, internal, and executive channels.
- Implement a company-wide communications strategy, calendar, and channel activation program to engage employees, support leadership alignment, and foster a strong organizational culture.
- Develop and execute internal communications strategies for the CEO and leadership team, including CEO messaging, town halls, and presentations.
- Oversee a thought leadership program for the CEO, including media relations, social media, and event management and support.
- Oversee ongoing development of brand messaging and activation across all communications content and channels. Lead the development and refinement of written brand identity guidelines.
- Manage media relations, press releases, and interviews to strengthen the company's reputation and promote key initiatives.
- Lead crisis communication efforts, providing strategic counsel to executives and ensuring clear, proactive, and transparent messaging during critical situations.
- Conduct internal and external communications audits to assess effectiveness, optimize strategies, and enhance impact. Establish content governance processes to ensure consistency and quality. Track, analyze, and report on communication performance, media coverage, and engagement to drive continuous improvement.
- Serve as a primary liaison between the CEO and the Board of Directors, facilitating clear, strategic communication and ensuring alignment on key organizational initiatives.
- Work closely with the CEO and leadership team to align board priorities with the organization's long- term strategy.
- Develop and manage board meeting agendas, materials, and presentations in collaboration with the CEO and senior leadership team.
- Prepare executive briefings, reports, and key messages to equip the CEO with the information needed for high-impact Board and stakeholder engagement.
- Support the CEO in managing board committees, advisory groups, and special task forces to maximize Board and stakeholder involvement and expertise.
- Oversee board-related documentation.
- Lead special projects as directed.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to create, refine, and maintain visual brand identity guidelines to ensure consistency across all communications.
- Exceptional writing, storytelling, and content creation skills.
- Exemplary communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage board members, executives, and key stakeholders.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex processes and multiple priorities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- 15+ years of senior leadership experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience building, leading and mentoring high-performing communications teams, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.
- 10+ years of experience working with C-suite executives, Boards of Directors, and senior leadership cross-functionally in a corporate or non-profit setting.
- Demonstrated success in executive advising, stakeholder management, and high-level decision- making.
- Proven track record in developing and executing comprehensive communications strategies that drive brand awareness and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong experience in developing and implementing brand positioning strategies that enhance organizational reputation and audience engagement.
Physical Requirements:
- Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone
- Ability to respond to telephones and other auditory stimulation
- Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make independent judgment/decisions
- Will frequently communicate over video calls with internal and external stakeholders to provide status updates and potential roadblocks
