Responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the construction of drilling rigs, and drilling rig components used in oil and gas exploration and production. This role combines expertise in mechanical engineering, structural design, and oilfield operations to create safe, efficient, and reliable rigs that meet project specifications and conform to industry standards. (API, IADC,etc.)

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Design Development: Create detailed designs and blueprints for drilling rigs, including structural components, mechanical systems, and equipment layouts, using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Engineering Analysis: Perform calculations and simulations to ensure rig designs meet safety, load-bearing, and environmental requirements (e.g., wind, seismic, and offshore conditions).
  • Equipment Integration: Select and integrate drilling equipment such as derricks, mud pumps, hoisting systems, and power units into the rig design.
  • Project Management: Collaborate with project teams, including fabricators, contractors, and clients, to oversee rig construction from concept to completion.
  • Compliance: Ensure designs adhere to industry standards (e.g., API, ASME) and regulatory requirements for safety and environmental impact.
  • Problem Solving: Troubleshoot design or construction issues and propose modifications to improve performance or address operational challenges.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Develop prototypes and oversee testing to validate rig functionality under real-world conditions.
  • Documentation: Prepare technical reports, manuals, and specifications for rig assembly, operation, and maintenance.
  • Innovation: Stay updated on advancements in drilling technology and materials to enhance rig efficiency and reduce costs.

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree or professional certification (e.g., PE) is a plus.
  • Experience: 3-7 years of experience in engineering design, preferably in oil and gas or heavy machinery industries. Experience with rig fabrication is highly desirable.

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year university or college in engineering or closely related degree.
