ViiV Healthcare was created as a joint venture by Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline in November 2009 with both companies transferring their HIV assets to the new company. In 2012 Shionogijoined the company. 76.5% of the company is now owned by GlaxoSmithKline, 13.5% by Pfizer and 10% by Shionogi.

We are seeking a VP, US Marketing for ViiV. This is a key strategic leadership role with accountability for all aspects of the US marketing function, along with a broader enterprise leadership remit as a key contributor to various strategic business initiatives This highly visible and important role sits on the ViiV North American Leadership team and oversees all assets across the ViiV portfolio which includes innovative brands across treatment and prevention, accounting for over $4B in annual net sales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees team of Marketers responsible for all aspects of Marketing and Brand leadership for in-line and pipeline portfolio, including multiple launch phase first in class innovative brands, covering both HIV treatment and prevention (pre-launch)
  • Leads team to effectively execute strategy and tactical plan by orchestrating partnerships and activities across large matrix team including Medical, Legal, Regulatory, Insights & Analytics, Market Access, and a ~400-person Sales team.
  • In partnership with Forecasting and Finance, defines product volume and financial forecasts and is responsible for achieving forecast goals on turnover and operating profit
  • Ensures that annual brand and portfolio strategic and operational plans are insight driven and enable competitive differentiation and exceptional customer experience
  • Inspires team to develop highly competitive and motivating creative campaigns and promotional materials by fully leveraging the creative capabilities of external agencies and effectively partnering with Copy Approval boards. This includes the full range of marketing mix (traditional, large-scale TV, digital) and customers (consumers, retailers, HCPs)
  • Allocates a substantial A&P budget and monitors effectively throughout the year to maximize return.
  • Ensures team establishes clear brand performance tracking and diagnosis system and rapidly develops actions plans for course correction.
  • Drives leading edge multi-channel marketing innovation, including the application of advanced analytics to inform strategic decision making and enhance execution
  • Ensures strong community insight underpins meaningful, engaging and impactful Direct To Patient marketing and is attuned to the needs of People Living with HIV
  • Actively contributes to key strategic decisions on market access and pricing strategies in complex US payer environment as part of the Governance board.
  • Partners closely with global commercial strategy and medical affairs teams to ensure that US insights and needs are well understood and supported through co-development of global strategies.
  • Accountable for the US commercial input and interface with Research and Development to design pipeline target product profiles and supportive development and regulatory strategies, as well as ensuring optimal lifecycle management and evidence generation strategies for in-line assets
  • Sits on the North America Risk Management and Compliance Board accountable for ensuring strong controls, compliance governance and culture across the organization
  • Provides regular planning, performance and strategic insights to senior leadership including the ViiV Executive Team
  • Builds an external presence and influence among current and emerging HIV key opinion leaders, community influencers and advocates
  • Leads the US commercial input to R&D and partners with Regulatory, and Medical Affairs (launch profiles for new products and new / strengthened indications for in-line products).
  • Ensures the appropriate enterprise matrix resources are available to enable effective build out and continuously enhance marketing capabilities
  • Identifies, recruits, inspires and develops key commercial talent. Is active in fostering Inclusion, and engages in mentoring and development programs
  • Visibly leads our culture of values, inclusive leadership, talent management and development

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelors degree in business or scientific field.
  • Experience of leading and launching a portfolio of specialty brands in the US, ideally including recent experience of injectable medical benefit brands
  • Experience of operating at a company LT level or in a broader leadership position, bringing a strong understanding of enterprise leadership and an ability to connect the dots and influence across functions, strategies and plans
  • Experience in a commercial role with demonstrated ability to conceive, develop and implement multi-dimensional cross-functional strategic and operational plans, underpinned by a deep functional understanding across all aspects of marketing and brand management
  • Experienced in areas of health prevention as well as treatment, or where the consumer/patient insight is the driving force for commercialization strategies, or in areas where there are important community insights/considerations/sensitivities
  • Experience in simultaneously holding strategic and tactical considerations, managing the interface effectively to deliver impact
  • Experience of leading a large team, as well as proven ability to influence cross-functional leaders, peers and teams.
  • Experience of the US payer and access environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA, MA or PhD is preferred
  • Highly disciplined and organized, able to effectively manage multiple projects/priorities, able to zoom in and out and provide appropriate empowerment and oversight.
  • Strong competitive mindset and experience of operating in highly competitive and complex markets.
  • Strategic agility when solving for complex issues. Creative and critical thinker, identifying opportunities and obstacles that no one else is thinking about
  • In tune and purposeful about organizational culture and can effectively lead through change and transformation
  • Significant budgetary responsibility
