American Statecraft Program

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a unique global network of policy research centers, seeks a research scholar for its Washington, D.C.-based American Statecraft program. Candidates for this position will be considered at the Fellow or Senior Fellow levels. This is a one-year position with possibility of extension at the discretion of Carnegie.

The selected fellow or senior fellow will be an integral part of this dynamic program focused on meeting the need for a more clear-eyed and disciplined U.S. foreign policy that consistently serves the U.S. national interest. To this end, the chosen scholar will develop and lead a project on a major issue related to the role of Congress in foreign policy, defense policy, intelligence policy, economic statecraft, or foreign policy process.

To be competitive, candidates should have served in a high-level foreign policy or national security role in the U.S. government. A record of excellence in writing and public speaking is also essential. Relevant academic credentials such as a PhD in political science, history, or sociology are strongly preferred.

Interested candidates should submit a resume, writing sample, and project description of no more than 500 words with their application. This is a hybrid role based in Washington, D.C. The anticipated salary range for this position is $110,000 to $190,000 depending on education, experience, and whether the offer is made at the fellow or senior fellow level.
