The Speech-Language Pathologist, with an unrestricted Massachusetts license, is responsible for providing evaluation and treatment services for patients referred with speech, language and/or swallowing disorders. Services are provided on an outpatient basis.
Our Speech Pathology team services patients who have a wide variety of communication and swallowing disorders at the inpatient and outpatient levels. Our team currently works with adults at the inpatient level, adults and pediatrics at the outpatient level, and completes adult video fluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) and fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES).
We are currently looking for a Speech Pathologist who provides skilled speech-language and swallowing services as assigned to pediatrics in the outpatient setting at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital in accordance with State Licensure Statute and Regulations, Professional Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, applicable federal, state and regulatory agencies' standards and regulations, hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Bilingual therapists are highly encouraged to apply.
Specifically:
1. Provide outpatient speech and feeding services to pediatric patients during weekday hours of operation. Areas of service include but are not limited to expressive and receptive language, articulation, evaluation and use of Augmentative Alternative Communication devices, and feeding and swallowing disorders.
2. Evaluate patient's communication and swallowing function using standardized evaluations, clinical evaluations, and parent/patient report. Identify speech, language and/or feeding disorders and associated dysfunction(s). In collaboration with patient and/or caregiver, develops a treatment plan with treatment goals directed towards maximizing function.
3. Provide appropriate treatment for patient based upon patient/caregiver goals to maximize outcomes.
4. Demonstrate competency in all clinical knowledge and skills specific to the patient case type(s) in assigned area of care.
5. Consults with other members of the health care team to ensure coordination and effectiveness of therapies provided.
6. Manages patient caseload assigned.
7. Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills. Maintains documentation per departmental policy and format that is accurate, complete and timely.
8. Participates in activities directed towards increasing knowledge and skill and professional development.
9. Participates in departmental meetings, which help to formulate policies, procedures and program development.
10. Performs all other duties as assigned.
11. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient's services by the Speech Pathology team.
Experience working with pediatrics at the outpatient level, especially in the areas of feeding and swallowing, expressive and receptive language, and evaluation and treatment of children who use Alternative Augmentative Communication devices are strong positives. Bilingual therapists are highly encouraged to apply.

Master's Degree Speech Therapy required

Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology [CCC-SLP] - American Speech Language Hearing Association preferred

Experience
Speech pathology experience of 1-2 years preferred in outpatient pediatric setting

- Familiarity of diagnostic assessments for speech language.
- Employee must have strong interpersonal skills.

- Must possess effective communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with patients, colleagues and other health care personnel.
- Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures sufficiently to perform clinical services independently.
- Ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology and speech-language pathology scope of practice.
- Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Knowledge of state standards, federal and state regulations.
