Description

The Facilities Management unit of the Division of Facilities and Services is seeking applications for a Plumbing Trades Specialist Lead II position.

This position will perform lead journeyman level plumbing, installation, and repair work across campus.

What You'll Do



  • Function as a team leader, providing guidance to journeyman, trades workers, and any other support personnel as required
  • Make work assignments for the crew to ensure proper quality work is completed in a timely fashion and complete daily reports on progress.
  • Ensure that proper safety procedures, equipment, and personal protective gear is used with performing job duties.
  • Receive work orders and interface with Work Control, supervisor, managers, and requesting party to finalize project needs and scope.
  • Read and review prints on new and existing building projects for repair or construction; develop as-built sketches of completed projects.
  • Determine and make recommendations on the needs of projects in regard to crew size, types of crafts, material availability, equipment, paperwork, etc.
  • Develop requisitions for parts, supplies, etc. from warehouse and vendors, ensuring timely delivery and sequencing.
  • Install, maintain, repair and overhaul steam distribution systems up to 250 PSI consisting of steam traps, pressure relief valves, condensate returns, expansion joints, steam rated valves, and pressure regulating valves.
  • Install, maintain, and repair lavatory sinks, water closets, fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, etc.
  • Repair, maintain, and install high- and low-pressure gas systems such as compressed air, natural gas, nitrogen, oxygen, and gas fire extinguishing systems.
  • Operate test equipment to inspect and diagnose piping systems, steam traps, heat exchangers, and vales, as well as hand tools and power equipment.
  • Perform general maintenance duties, as needed, either in relation to normal journeyman responsibilities or assisting other trades, such as low level electrical connections, lighting, sheet metal fabrication, painting, carpentry, etc.


Pay Grade: 15

Work Hours: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have one of the following:

    • 2 years experience in general trades, building maintenance experience in the areas of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other craft trades.
    • Completion of an associate degree in building maintenance or other craft trade.
    • Completion of a 2-year accredited vocational craft trades program.


  • One (1) year experience leading and/or training others.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes and requirements pertaining to maintenance and construction
  • Knowledge of basic principles in areas of blueprint reading, general mathematics, applied chemistry, and physics

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license required for driving state vehicles around campus
  • Physical requirements include the ability to:


    • Perform extremely strenuous lifting of items weighing more than 75 pounds
    • Perform deep bending, climbing, and/or working in difficult positions for long periods of time
    • Climb heights more than 10 feet
    • Work in inclement weather conditions, as well as extremely hot or cold areas, such as steam tunnels or coolers
    • Use excellent hand to eye coordination and to hear and interpret sounds in work areas
