About the Role

We seek an experienced, dynamic Director of Corporate Communications specializing in external communications, media relations, and public relations. Reporting to the Head of Integrated Marketing Communications, this critical role will shape, drive, and amplify our external narrative to elevate our market & thought leadership and brand presence in the life sciences industry.

The ideal candidate excels at strategic communications thinking, relationship-building, and hands-on execution in a rapidly evolving scientific environment.

What You Will Be Doing:

External Communications Strategy



  • Develop and implement a strategic external communications plan designed to enhance brand reputation, thought leadership, and visibility within the life sciences sector.
  • Continuously evaluate communications strategy and leverage emerging trends, including digital storytelling, influencer engagement, multimedia content, and AI-driven analytics.


Media Relations & Public Relations



  • Lead proactive and strategic media relations efforts to secure impactful earned media coverage in tier-one scientific, business, and industry outlets.
  • Craft compelling press releases, media pitches, and narratives highlighting company innovations, breakthroughs, and industry leadership.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with influential journalists, industry analysts, and key opinion leaders to maximize media exposure.


Thought Leadership & Executive Visibility



  • Position 10x Genomics and its executive leadership as authoritative voices within spatial genomics, single-cell analysis, and broader biotechnology trends through strategic speaking engagements, op-eds, and targeted content.
  • Create tailored communication materials, including executive talking points, presentations, briefing documents, and digital content to support external positioning.


Content Development & Storytelling



  • Oversee the creation of high-quality, engaging content for external stakeholders, including investors, industry partners, customers, and media.
  • Collaborate closely with scientific, marketing, and product teams to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible, impactful narratives and multimedia content.


Issues & Crisis Management



  • Develop and lead issues management and crisis communication strategies, ensuring preparedness and rapid, effective response to potential public-facing challenges.


Global and Regional Alignment



  • Develop global communications guidelines and toolkits to ensure consistent brand representation across regional markets.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to adapt messaging effectively, addressing localized market contexts and opportunities.


Analytics and Measurement



  • Utilize advanced analytics to monitor, measure, and optimize external communications effectiveness, assessing brand sentiment, share of voice, media reach, and strategic impact.
  • Regularly report performance metrics and insights, adjusting strategies based on data-driven learnings.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Life Sciences, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, media relations, or public relations, ideally within life sciences, biotechnology, or healthcare industries.
  • Demonstrated success in securing significant media placements, managing crisis communications, and shaping compelling narratives.
  • Strong ability to build and leverage relationships with media, influencers, and external stakeholders.
  • Proven experience translating scientific and technical information into clear, persuasive external communication.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and multimedia communication skills.
  • Proficiency in analytics tools and platforms for tracking and reporting communication effectiveness.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to change within a fast-paced, innovative environment.
  • Global communications experience preferred, with demonstrated cross-cultural awareness and adaptability.


We strongly prefer local candidates but may consider remote candidates residing within California who are open to frequent travel to our Pleasanton HQ location.

Below is the U.S. base pay range for this full-time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one's skills, qualifications, experience, and location. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company's total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x's equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program. During the hiring process, your 10x recruiter can share the specific base pay range for your preferred location and more about the Company's total compensation package.
