What You Will Do

The Verification and Validation Lead Engineer will be part of CTCTs Electronic Hardware development team, specifically focusing on Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) and Angle Sensors. This position is a fundamental position that enables CTCTs product development team to deliver robust, high quality hardware solutions optimized for performance, cost, and reliability to enable the success of Caterpillar and Trimble in the earthmoving machine grade control markets.

This role will provide planning, scheduling, execution, and directing of verification and validation activities as it relates to IMU's and Angle Sensors. This role will be embedded within the cross-functional product development team and will assist with product risk identification, mitigations, and verification activities. The product scope of this role will include new technology, new product, and product improvement activities. Testing scope for this role spans a multitude of venues such as virtual, lab, bench, hardware in the loop, environmental, on-machine, and end-user application testing.

This is an exciting role that spans many engineering disciplines across all phases of a products lifecycle. There will be elements of electrical, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, machine testing, and any other discipline that is required to verify and validate our innovative products.

  • Work within a product team structure alongside Product Managers, Technical Leads, and Program Managers to provide verification and validation expertise for product development programs.

  • Accountable for the Product verification/validation strategy and test plans created collaboratively, with systems and product teams. Activities should consider all possible testing venues (lab, simulation, bench, autotest, machine, ... etc)

  • Drive usage and quality execution of tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs) and Design Verification Plan & Reports (DVP&R).

  • Ensure that Verification and Validation activities are planned, sequenced appropriately, and are coordinated across various teams to execute. This will require collaboration with project managers.

  • Ensure verification and validation activities are completed properly and are evaluated against established acceptance criteria. This could include environmental testing, functional testing, performance testing, margin testing, etc ...

  • Accountable to ensure that all test documentation is compiled, complete, communicated, actioned, and archived.

  • Standard work creation, updating, and socialization as needed as it relates to verification and validation.

  • Create standard validation workflows for sustainment activities such as part alternatives, supplier changes, etc ...

  • Determine long-term testing needs such as equipment capability and skills to improve validation of products.

  • Provide technical guidance and capture lessons learned.

  • Present a Product Validation Status at program reviews.

  • Follow products through the full lifecycle including maintaining and updating test documentation all the way to product deprecation. This includes having knowledge and gaining experience across all validation venues.

What Skills & Experience You Should Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or another Engineering discipline.

  • 9+ years of experience

  • Master's degree in an Engineering plus 7+ years of experience OR

  • Doctorate degree in Engineering plus 5+ years of experience.

  • Previous product development experience (design, validation/test or analysis).

  • Requires a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills and excellent analytical skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
