Job Description:

Spectra Tech, Inc. is seeking a Structural Engineer Design Authority/SME to support the Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure project. This position will serve as the Structural Engineering Design Authority/Subject Matter Expert for the Advanced Modular Pretreatment System (AMPS), part of the Direct Feed Low-Activity Waste (DFLAW)/AMPS Engineering Team. The role requires advanced subject matter expertise and a deep understanding of structural engineering principles, especially related to codes and standards used in nuclear facility design and operations.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Serve as the group Structural Design Authority within a multi-discipline Design Authority team.
  • Provide discipline-specific guidance and design review oversight throughout the design, fabrication, testing, and construction phases.
  • Aid engineering and project management with technical work plans and design execution.
  • Review new designs developed by the Architect/Engineer and perform technical document evaluations.
  • Interface with the Engineering Discipline Lead (EDL) to facilitate effective design reviews.
  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and final design engineering contract documents (plans, specifications, and estimates).
  • Perform structural analysis and calculations; prepare technical reports, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
  • Review construction drawings and plans; provide construction support through field inspections and investigations.
  • Apply knowledge of structural codes and standards including IBC, ASCE, AISC, ASTM, and ACI.
  • Collaborate across engineering and technical disciplines and interact professionally with clients and their representatives.
  • Maintain technical competence and stay current on relevant tools, methodologies, and standards.
  • Support project delivery by identifying appropriate discipline-specific inputs, engineering processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Attend project meetings as required.
Position Requirements (Special Training/License):
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)-preferably licensed in the State of Washington.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of Hanford Field Office orders, codes, and standards.
  • Proficient in structural design of Safety Significant nuclear facilities.
  • Experience with seismic design in relation to Hanford's 200 East and 200 West Areas.
  • Skilled in the use of structural analysis software (e.g., ANSYS, STAAD).
  • Experience developing nuclear safety basis documentation.
  • Familiarity with both design and construction phases of nuclear facility projects.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (required).
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in civil/structural engineering.
