Position Summary

We are seeking an Operational Project Manager to lead the coordination, execution, and successful delivery of multiple concurrent projects and initiatives aligned with UNC Health's strategic priorities. This role demands a results-oriented, collaborative leader who can work across functional areas to drive measurable outcomes and lasting improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Lead complex projects to completion using PMI or Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Develop project scopes, goals, deliverables, timelines, and financial/resource plans aligned with business objectives.
  • Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle-from initiation through planning, execution, and closure.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and senior leadership to ensure alignment, resource allocation, and effective communication.
  • Monitor progress and performance metrics; identify and mitigate risks before they become critical issues.
  • Develop and manage project communication strategies across leadership levels and stakeholder groups.

Problem Solving & Implementation

  • Translate data and process analysis into actionable, sustainable solutions.
  • Drive process improvements that streamline operations and reduce complexity.
  • Lead change management efforts and ensure smooth adoption of new initiatives.
  • Partner with leadership to challenge the status quo when improvement is needed.
  • Identify and implement data-driven strategies that improve care delivery and reduce costs.

Leadership & Coaching

  • Mentor team members and support development through coaching and knowledge sharing.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and departments.
  • Demonstrate strong conflict resolution and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Champion personal and professional growth-for yourself and others.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience managing complex, cross-functional projects in healthcare or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with value-based care, population health, and healthcare operations is a plus.
  • PMP or Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.

Education Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Administration or related field or equivalency.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* No licensure or certification required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* If Master's degree, requires two (2) years of professional experience in project management related work.
* If a Bachelor's degree, requires five (5) years of professional experience in project management related work.
* If an Associate's degree, requires nine (9) years of professional experience in project management related work.
* If a high school diploma, requires thirteen (13) years of professional experience in project management related work.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
* Strong knowledge of project management techniques and tools required.
