This position reports directly to the Language Services Supervisor in the Support Services Department. The primary obligation of the Foreign Language Interpreter is to overcome language barriers so that limited English proficient patients will have meaningful access to medical care and suffer no advantage or disadvantage as compared to English-speaking patients and other parties during Medical Center appointments or procedures. Ensure effective and clear communication between non-English speaking patients their families and Medical Center staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Experience: One year of medical interpreting experience required. Two or more years of medical interpreting experience preferred. Ability to perform consecutive interpreting (written and sight) required. Simultaneous interpretation preferred. Licensure: Required within 1 year of employment from one of the following certifying organizations. NBCMI: National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters CCHI: Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires frequently traveling (distance: minimum 1 mile/daily). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
