Position Summary

Responsible for providing human resource services and products that perpetuate and enhance the Chartwells School Dining culture and vision and values. Will oversee and maintain official corporate/sector records and documents; execute administrative policies; develop, implement, preserve systems and procedures to support the assigned accounts in a multi-unit setting.   Major areas of responsibility will be recruiting, training, retention, labor relations and employee relations for assigned area.

Major Areas of Responsibility


  • Interface with recruiting departments (Compass National Recruitment Center and Resource Network) to ensure that open positions are posted and filled according to policy
  • Assists hiring managers with  hourly onboarding
  • Oversee, monitor, and enforce union contract provisions related to transfers, promotions, demotions, etc.


  • Tracks designated training activities to ensure timely compliance with requirements such as ServSafe, Online Workplace Harassment, and Online Wage and Hour Compliance
  • Facilitate managerial training to include, but not limited to 1. Effective compliance with NLRB and the bargaining agreement   2.  Hourly Leadership courses   3.  HR/Legal Compliance   4.  Manager's CHAT sessions
  • Assist managers with Safety Training and Safety Orientation

Team Building and Retention

  •  Supports team member retention programs
  • Uses all performance management tools to provide guidance and feedback to team
  • Promotes a cooperative work climate, maximizing productivity and morale
  • Conducts benefits meetings and on-going communications related to team member benefits and perks
  • Administers company recognition systems (HERO and Be-A-Star)
  • Participates in regular scheduled meetings to ensure lines of communication are open between management and team members

 Labor Relations/Associate Relations

  • Provide HR guidance to managers and associates in the areas of Labor Relations and Associate Relations in accordance with the union contract and Company policy compliance
  • Investigates and advises management in appropriate resolution of labor relations issues involving working conditions, disciplinary actions, compensation or other HR/LR related matters as needed
  • Provides guidance to managers in handling associate relations' and labor relations' issues and in resolving complaints, disputes, and grievances

 Secondary Areas of Responsibility

  •  Compensation:  researches complaints about salary/wage treatments (e.g. merit increase, across-the-board increases, bonuses, promotions, demotions, wage adjustments, etc.)
  • Administrative:  Maintain complete and accurate filing system to provide immediate retrieval of any required documents; Maintain, update,  and audit associate files as needed
  • Other HR-related duties as assigned by Corporate HR Department and/or Regional Human Resources Business Partner

Job Requirements

  • Able to communicate effectively with management team, guests, vendor,  and team members by speaking and comprehending English
  • English reading, writing, math and computer skills required
  • Stamina to work 60 hours or more per week
  • Must be able to work extended shifts of 10 hours or more as business dictates
  • Possible job hazards include, but are not limited to; slips, trips, falls, burns, cuts and strains
  • Must be able to reach, lift, stoop, bend and perform extensive standing and walking (including stairs) throughout shift
  • Ability to use hands in using office equipment, including the computer system
  • Ability to talk and hear to conduct phone correspondence and presentations
  • Close vision and focus capabilities to view computer screen and company documents

 Educations and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required.  Master's degree preferred
  • PHR or SPHR designation a plus
  • 3-5 years of human resources generalist experience including 2 years exposure to a union, multi-unit environment; previous experience overseeing the activities of a large number of associates is a must
